Mica Mine Hike

Mica Mine Hike has been our favorite hikes with the kids. It is a 2.6 mile hike that shows off a little of the funnest parts of Grand Junction hiking. Hiking through beautiful canyon walls, while following a little creek and ending in a mine with high walls and lots of rock play. OH... and did I mention that the path you are walking on sparkles like glitter from the mine tailings of mica a quartz.

We took Hannah for the first time to Mica Mine when she was 6 months old. She hung out in the Kelty carrier and came out now and again to suck on a piece of sandstone.

We went again when Madalyn was a little over a year and Hannah had just turned three. Hannah being our oldest, we had no idea what to expect from a three year old and we were not sure if 2 1/2 miles was to much for her little legs. Not only did Hannah hike all by herself she climbed every rock in sight. Madalyn being the perfect little angel baby that she was, slept through most of our outing.

This past weekend we went back up to Mica Mine and brought our dear friends the Pollards, with us. Four adults, one 5 year old, two 3 year olds and one 8 month old and everyone did great! Hannah had a blast "rock climbing" on anywhere she could get up on and Madal and Griff hike all by them selves like champs and Ailee... well Ailee was a delight as always!

Good Friends
